Headquarters for the Winnebago Historical Society is the Mansion Museum located in Forest City, Iowa. The Mansion was built at the turn of the century as a private home. In 1945 it was converted to a hotel and remained as such until 1977 when the Society acquired the property, restored the house and converted it into the historical museum of today. The Mansion Museum features a wonderful display of over 3500 North American artifacts from Winnebago County, and a one-of-a-kind collection from the estate of Ida Fuller, the butterfly dancer. Completely restored, the three-story 1897 Victorian House Bed and Breakfast is beautifully decorated with antiques from the period.
During the summer, the Mansion Museum is open on Sundays from 1:00-4:00 PM. Special group tours may be arranged at other times. Admission is $1.00, but on show days at Heritage Park of North Iowa, admission is included with your admission to the show. A shuttle service is provided between the show grounds and the Mansion.
