Currently, the Timberland Museum is located six miles southeast of Forest City. Arlo Johnson started the museum in 1940 and as such represents one of the first historical museums in north central Iowa. The museum displays a fine collection of Indian and prehistoric man artifacts found in the Winnebago and Hancock county area.
Arlo Johnson has gracefully gifted the entire museum to Heritage Park of North Iowa. Over the course of the next several years, the museum will be moved to the Heritage Park site. Until the move is complete, on show days, a shuttle service will be provided between Heritage Park and the museum's current location.
